everybody loves somebody

My father gave me an electronic Sudoku game I’ve been playing like a maniac. It has an annoying beep for every button, so I play it with the sound off, until I’m about to win. Then I toggle it on (I love the language in the instruction booklet), just in time to hear the victory tune. Otherwise, there’s no clear indication of completion, of closure, except a grid full of numbers and and a 0 errors message on the menu screen.

In Greece, it’s traditional this time of year to play lucky games. It has something to do with bringing good luck in the new year. Some people go to casinos to play it big; others stay home and play cards with friends. I bought some lottery tickets, and I won! Twenty-five euros. All things considered, no small sum. Unfortunately, it’s considered better luck to lose than to win. A person can be “lucky in cards” or lucky in love, but not both. It’s okay. My Sudoku logic tells me this year will be about a different kind of love than last.

Happy 2007 to all.

happy new year to you too, and congrats for your winning!

even to buy one of those lettery things takes a lot of courage. I'm so sure i'll never win, so i never buy them...

as for the cards and love thing, do not believe it for a second.

it's a fable made up to make the people losing money on card games to feel better.

it's of the same variety as the "cold hands, warm heart" one

Hey there! Rule number one about lotteries and lucky games: you gotta play to win. Of course, as in my case, you'll probably "play" a lot more than you'll actually win, but that shouldn't diminish the win for its own sake.

You're right about the other thing. I've had doubts about my luck in love since way before the holidays. My cat, for example. The worst cat in the world, and I love him so much.

Happy New Year to both of you! I'm sorry to say I'm not one much for tradition, but winning 25 bucks sounds pretty lucky to me. May it set the tone for 2007, in love, life, bukas and cats.

Best wishes from Lu and the Lochster!
