Lu, yeah, the cat was proud to get past my ancient Chinese cat defenses (which involve not only many, many souvlaki sticks artfully placed, but barricades, plastic, whole balcony rearrangement) just long enough for me to take the picture. He was prouder, though, when he dug all my stuff up just moments after I had planted it. He's that kind of cat.
The lettuce was first. Now I've also got tomatoes and herbs coming up. If all goes well, and the cat stays out of it, I'll have salad by September!

perhaps you need Lochie the Scottish Guard to watch over the salad veggies. He's very good.
